Hello everyone!

This is so I can get an idea how how far Ai's creeping can go with your character. In her canon she watches people a lot, and has mad hacking skills. Not that she really thinks about it. She most likely will never use your information against you, just find some of it interesting. She's curious like that. Thanks for filling this out!

Can Ai Stare at your character(s) without talking?:

Can Ai see what your character is, even if they hide it? (IE, angel, demon, spy so forth?):

Can she break their locks, blocks and so forth?:

Can she randomly show up around your character? (IE, world hope to stare at them? This isn't going to be common, but it would be nice to know so she can get more CR at some point other then constant anon and not talking.):

History:
Enma Ai was born in a small town near the mountains. She was always the odd girl out there. The people thought that she had magical powers, but she was just ordinary. There where just odd things that would happen around here at times. She was shy and an easy target. Her only friend was her cousin, Sentarou. He saved her from the bullies all the time. She really liked him.

When Enma Ai turned six, she was chosen for the towns sacrifice to the gods. Since she was the odd girl out the town didn’t see anything wrong with it, but her parents and cousin decided to keep it from happening. Instead of killing her, they hide her away in a shrine in the mountains. Sentarou was the only one who visited her to bring food and clothing, including her favorite candies.

While Enma Ai was hidden away, she would play in the water and sing songs. The cousins became very close, and Ai had a crush on him. However, during this time the crops in town were failing. The entire town was in ruin for a few years before Ai was found.

One night, Sentarou was followed into the woods and both were tied up. To try and make up for the years that the gods were denied their sacrifice, the town knocked out both Enma Ai and her parents at the shrine and buried them alive. While they were throwing the dirt onto Ai she woke up. The town people forced Sentarou to throw a shovel of dirt on her and it broke Ai’s heart. In pure anger she cursed the entire town and vowed to have her vengeance on those who had mad her life hell. As she was buried alive, Ai’s eyes started to bleed, turning them red.

Soon after the burial, Enma Ai rose from the dead to exact her vengeance on the people who hurt her. Ai walked through the town, burning the entire town down before the lord of hell stopped her. He took her to a land between the living and hell and made Ai the Hell Girl to punish her for her crimes. He also held her parents souls as leverage, saying if she didn’t do as he said they would wonder aimlessly between heaven and hell. She was instructed to lock away all her emotions and live only as Hell Girl. That was the start of the contracts that she was to make with humans to have their vengeance fulfilled for a thousand years. She was given a kimono, which she had to dawn every time she went to make a contract.

This was when Ai started to hide all her emotions. She never smiled or said too much. It was easier to forget about how she died, she locked it away in her mind. She did her job and tired to think little about the people whom she affected. She lived in a pocked dimension with a small river and a modest Japanese house. Her only company at first was an old lady.

These contracts that Ai must make happen as followed. At midnight, the seeker of revenge contacts the Hell Girl. If Enma Ai thought that it was worth her time, she will appear before them and offer the person a straw doll. They are told the conditions of the contract as: “If you pull the string on the dolls neck, you enter into a covenant with her and the person they seek revenge on will go to hell. However, when someone is sent to hell, there is a cost. The person whose name was given will go straight to hell but the person who made the contract is also doomed to go to hell as well. The will wonder through a land of pain and torment for all of eternity.” It is then that the person can either give the doll back or hold onto it and pull the string when they wish.

The first known method of making contracts was with wish tags placed on a board at shrines. She would put them on the board and the words would only be available for reading at midnight. It was during one such visit when Enma Ai met Wanyudo. He was an out of control demon at the time. She took him in and stabilized his demon soul. He offered to giver her a ride from her home to her jobs as thanks and she accepted. He became one of the dolls she used to make the contracts with. The second demon doll she took in was Ren Ichimoku. He was a sword that was used many times to kill. She now used him to see things in other locations without being there with his all Seeing Eye. Her third demon doll was Hone Onna. Ai took her in when she was killing souls that wound wonder near her bones. Ai is never really open with her dolls. She plays with them at times as dolls, but does little else. She never speak openly too them. She uses them to help her with her job though. It is through the years of working that there is a silent bond between the three. She trusts that they will be their for her.

In the past, there have been several different ways that people contact Ai for the contracts. These include the use of the newspaper where someone could only view the text with a strong desire for vengeance. They would drop a letter into the mail and midnight and she would appear. Currently she uses a computer to be contacted. She will send a text to their sell phone if she will take the case.

Ai never speaks of her past, and her team never asks her. She has locked it away tightly. It is during the first season that something changes though. There is a small girl, Tsugumi Shibata, who is able to see through Ai’s eye. This changes a lot for Ai. Throughout the session she shows Tsugumi little visions of who has made a contract with her. It’s not always their face, but sometimes where they are or other such clues. Even though the girl’s father, Hajime Shibata, goes after the people who have made the contract, it does little to stop them in the end.

Ai finds the family interesting at first. She follows them around after they start to become a bother though. It is during a trip to a shrine in the mountains Ai that starts to remember her past after seeing the candies that the shrine always has. It is a shrine that Sentarou made in her honor so that her soul might rest after all the terrible things that happened to her. His family still brings the shrine candies every year, the ones that Sentarou brought to her in the mountains. When she connects the father and daughter with her cousin, she instantly hates them. She uses her powers to hit them with dark energy. Her dolls try to stop her, but she eventually hits then and send them crashing into the water. She is taken away in a flash of lightening a moment later.

She is ferried away on the boat to the gates of hell by the spider and told that hell has been waiting for her. However, Ai says that it isn’t time. She is able to escape him after he tries to tie her down with his spider web.

Ai takes Tsugumi into a dimension of her own making and shows the girl how her mother died. Her farther ran her off for sleeping with another man, even though he had paid no attention to her, and the mother wound up in a car crash. Ai torments the young girl with images of her mother bleeding and in pain and her father saying it’s not her fault.

Before Tsuigumi is talked into pulling the string though, Ai’s grandmother sends the father, Hajime, into the dimension. After witnessing the crash again, Hajime says that it’s all his fault and he should have been the one to die. Ai tries to make Tsuigumi pull the string to that reason, but the girl says he’s an idiot. That the time they have spent since that day is precious to her and she would never wish death on him. Seeing this forgiveness, it helps Ai understand why Sentarou had built the temple for her. It was to make up for the terrible way that she had died and try and remember the wonderful times they had instead. She remembered those times they had together and her soul found peace.

After returning the family to the temple, Ai destroyed it. That part of her life was over, and the temple had no reason to be there anymore. She returns home to continue her work as the Hell Girl.

Personality:
Enma Ai is a stoic and silent girl. Because of the contract she is under with the lord of hell, she has learned to ignore most of her emotions. She never talks to people who have not called her on the hot line. She will speak with the woman she calls her grandmother from time to time at the house though. She finds her presence a comfort in contrast to the spider that watches her. The spider is the lord of hell.

Since she has stored away her emotions for so long, Ai has a hard time relating to others. She finds the actions of others curious at times, but knows that things rarely change. She wonders at times about what else could be done or how things could change. She wonders why people use hell for different ends, and why some people can still make the contract after hearing what awaits them after death.

At times, Ai will give whoever is trying to make the contract a little leeway, such as in the episode "Early Afternoon Window" when she showed the daughter when all of her mothers torment had started when she was something she shouldn’t have. Ai knew that the girl would pull the string anyway, but allowing her to see why her mother was doing so poorly. It was an extra steep she didn’t have to take. She sometimes shows a little emotion for those she takes to hell, though it is in very small ways. When she came to gather the soul of an old man who had made a contract with her several decades before in "Imprisoned Girl", Ai made his painting of her cry.

When Ai finds Tsugumi, it’s very confusing to her. She doesn’t know what to make of the girl since the girl reminds her of something that she can’t out right remember. It’s unsettling for Ai to not understand what she’s feeling. She’d rather have control over a situation. This can be seen in the fact that she has those who make contracts with her followed by her demon dolls.

When Ai does show her true emotion, such as in "Home in the Twilight" when she finally realized the family was connected to her cousin, Ai became extremely volatile. She did whatever it took to do what she felt was needed. In doing so, Ai showed her own inner powers when she was able to defy the lord of hells hold on her for a short time. It showed that she could be more then just a doll doing whatever the lord of hell wishes of her, even if it was only for a moment.

Ai can also be a tad childish at times. She will play with different things in her house, such as paper balls, cherries or marbles. She will play with her dolls at times too, making them tip over or throwing a marble at them. The spider lilies around her house are a favorite of hers as well. She enjoys laying or sitting around her house, just relaxing and thinking.

Other: She makes contracts that send people to hell. The site would not work in other people’s worlds.

First Person (entry type):

[Text]

A soul is an abstract idea, something that cannot be grasped or touched when alive. So many people treat theirs with reckless disregard. What is your soul worth in your eyes? What would it take for you to give up?

[Text]

I have seen that there are many different ideas of what hell is scattered across the network. How many of you believe in such things? Are there some who have seen it?

When there is nothing to do, how do you spend your time, playing or spending time with others? What of those who are not fond of being around others?

Third Person:

It was a quiet day, one of those when Ai’s thoughts wondered aimlessly. After sending someone to hell, she would find questions filling her head recently. Something had changed in her recently, but Ai couldn’t put a finger on it. There were so many more people coming to find her as well, even though the consequences of their actions had not changed. What had changed then? Was the world really so troubled that they could find no other way out? For a moment Ai let herself muse out aloud. “Grandmother, will there ever be an end?”

“You say such odd things, Ai.” Was the old woman’s only response. The end of people’s hatred and vengeance would never come and Ai knew that. But still, what did people see in such an escape as the one she could offer? There where times when it was clear why, but others…

“Yes, that must be it.” Was all that Ai could think of saying back. So many people used hell to their own ends and Ai had seen all of them. It was silly to think back on those pitiful souls, yet it happened time and time again recently. There were so many different reasons that a person would wish hell on others, but each one had a common thread, right? They couldn’t see beyond their own and immediate pain. The consequences of their actions in this life and the next seemed to mean nothing to them. What was a soul truly worth at times like that?

“Would you like a new marble, Ai?” The woman broke the train of thought running through her head suddenly. Ai was grateful at a time like this to have Grandmother. Ai’s thoughts where getting the better of her. It wasn’t right for her to think of such things.

“Yes, I seemed to have misplaced the last one.” Ai didn’t feel like finding it either. Like the people that she made contracts with, Ai would rather loose track of them then look back at what she had done. Taking the new marble from her grandmother, Ai shot it at Ren and watched the doll fall over. It was an easy and thoughtless act, unlike sending those souls to hell, one that would give no weight to her mind. It was soothing to do something like that after her mind had wandered. “Thank you, Grandmother.”
